Principles

A short set of ideas behind the work — how a photograph earns its place on a wall, and what a city looks like when you stop to see it.

01

Observation, not composition

A photograph earns its place here for what it notices, not for how well it's made. If it isn't saying something about how a place is actually used, it doesn't go on the wall.

02

The street tells you what the drawing couldn't

Every place in this work was designed by someone. These photographs exist because people never quite use a place the way its designers expected, and that gap is where it gets interesting.
